The Snowy Day《下雪天》，凯迪克金奖作品，以一个小孩在雪地中充满好奇的探索为故事主轴，描绘童年的神奇和喜悦。这是第一本以黑人小孩为主角的彩色儿童图画书，非常的有爱。
小男孩彼得，一早醒来发现昨夜下了雪，兴奋地跑到雪地里玩各种游戏，他堆了一个雪人和一个天使。回家前，还把在院子里捏的雪球放进口袋里，想留到明天再玩。回家后彼得泡在浴缸里，还忍不住一再回味，于是睡前去翻口袋，找寻带回来的雪，口袋却是空的，小雪球不见了，让他很失望。上床后又梦到太阳溶融了所有的雪。但他一觉醒来，窗外却正在下着雪……

认识作者
艾兹拉·杰克·季兹（Ezra Jack Keats），1916年3月11日出生于美国纽约布鲁克林。他的父母都是波兰出生的犹太人，因为遭到迫害移民到了美国，他是他们三个孩子中最小的一个。他小时候就喜欢涂鸦，常常把道路或是墙当成画布。
1934年他高中毕业后，虽然得到了艺术学校的奖学金，但因为父亲突然过世，他只好放弃，一边打工一边自学。1942年他应征入伍，战后曾去巴黎做过一年的绘画之旅。回国后，他在纽约的画廊举行过个人画展，并开始为成人书设计封面和画插图。从1954年到1960年，他还为十几本童书画了插图。

One winter morning Peter woke up and looked out the window.
一个冬天的早晨，Peter醒来后看向窗外。
Snow had fallen during the night.
学下了一整夜。
It covered everything as far as he could be.
雪覆盖了窗外的一切。
After breakfast he put on his snowsuit and ran outside.
吃过早餐，他穿上防雪装，跑了出去。
The snow was piled up very high along the street to make a path for walking.
沿着街道雪高高的堆起，形成了一条可以走的小路。
Crunch, crunch, crunch, his feet sank into the snow.
咯吱，咯吱，咯吱，他的脚踩进雪里。
He walked with his toes pointing out, like this:
他把脚尖朝外走了起来，像这样：（看左图）
He walked with his toes pointing in, like that:
他又把脚尖朝内走了一段，像那样：（看右图）
Then he dragged his feet s-l-o-w-l-y to make tracks.
然后他用脚慢慢地拖着走，走出了两条长长的足迹。
And he found something sticking out of the snow that made a new track.
接着他又伸到雪里一个东西，弄出一个新轨迹。
It was a stick
这个东西是个木棍
–a stick that was just right for smacking a snow-covered tree.
这个木棍的长度刚好可以打到一棵被雪覆盖的树。
Down fell the snow—-Plop!
–on top of Peter’s head.
雪从树上掉下来——扑通!——掉在了Peter的头顶上。
He thought it would be fun to join the big boys in their snowball fight, but he knew he wasn’t old enough——not yet.
他想如果跟那些大孩子们一起打雪仗应该很有趣，但是他知道他年纪还不够——不够大。
So he made a smiling snowman,
所以他做了一个微笑的雪人，
and he made angels.
并且在雪地上印出小天使。
He pretended he was a mountain-Climber.
他假装他是个登山家。
He climbed up a great big tall heaping mountain of snow–
and slid all the way down.
他爬上一个高大的雪堆山，然后从高处一路滑下来。
He picked up a handful of snow——and another, and still another.他捧起一把雪——然后另一把，然后还有一把。
He packed it round and firm and put the snowball in his pocket for tomorrow.
他把手里的雪按得结实滚圆，把雪球放到口袋准备明天玩。
Then he went into his warm house.
然后他就走进了温暖的房子里，
He told his mother all about his adventures while she took off his wet socks.
当妈妈给他脱掉湿漉漉的袜子时他告诉了妈妈这趟奇遇。
And he thought and thought and thought about them.
然后他一直想啊想啊想这趟玩雪的历险。
Before he got into bed he looked in his pocket.
在他准备上床睡觉前，他去看看口袋里的雪球。
His pocket was empty.
他的口袋空了。
The snowball wasn’t there.
雪球不见了。
He felt very sad.
他感觉非常难过。
While he slept, he dreamed that the sun had melted all the snow away.
当他睡着的时候，他梦见太阳把所有的雪都晒化了。
But when he woke up his dream was gone.
但是当他醒来，他的梦消失了。
The snow was still everywhere.
雪依然到处都在。
New snow was falling!
新的雪又开始下了！
After breakfast he called to his friend from across the hall,
吃过早餐，他叫上住在对门的朋友，
and they went out together into the deep, deep snow.
然后他们一起走向深深的雪中。。。
